Hello and welcome to Kaleidoscope Teen Magazine’s 7th issue!

Happy New Year! It is finally 2021. 2020 for me, felt like the longest year ever while simultaneously feeling like it went by so quickly. Looking back on it, I can’t believe it’s 2021! 2020 was a difficult year for many people in a variety of ways. Whether it was losing loved ones, the impact of isolation, the effect on mental health, finishing school on zoom, or not graduating in person. Even though there were so many challenges last year, I am sure we can all find things that were positive or that we learned about ourselves during 2020.

2020 was the year where we had no choice but to pause, slow down, and reflect. Reflect on where we were individually and on the state of our country and the world. It was the year of bringing to light social injustices and speaking our minds about how we felt about those injustices. We can look to 2020 as a transition year and hopefully, we can bring the same energy we had in 2020 to the future to keep creating the change we want to see in the world.

I believe that our generation, Gen Z, played a significant role in this as well. Through social media, we have brought awareness to issues that plague our country, started petitions, led protests and held people, who were meant to be “in charge”, accountable for their actions or in many cases inaction. We should be proud of ourselves, we have persevered despite all of these obstacles in the most  pivotal time in the world.

Here’s to a new year of successes, milestones, community, love, and health! 🎉
