Hello and welcome to Kaleidoscope Teen Magazine!
Originally I was going to make the theme for this issue about intersectionality. But when George Floyd was murdered I felt like we needed to use our platform to talk about this NOW.
The utter disregard of black lives has been a problem since we were snatched up from the continent of Africa and placed into slavery. I’m so frustrated that we still have to fight for our rights to live, “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” as stated in the United States Declaration of Independence. Black people are dying while carrying a hairbrush, sleeping, playing in the park, jogging, or even going into their own home.
Like a lot of people right now I am sick and tired of this! It seems like we have a new hashtag every week, but nothing changes. And the only reason anything is done is because a video is released. But nothing changes.
This issue is going to be a place for Generation Z to use their voices to share their opinions, frustrations, and hopes through poetry, articles, podcasts, art, or whatever medium speaks best to them.
Please contribute to this issue, we need to hear your voices. EVERYONE can make a submission regardless of your gender, race, or nationality!
Remember to be silent is to be complicit! Please use your platforms and your voices!
